plane mirror image formation

Question 9 A person standing 1 m in front of a plane mirror approaches the mirror by 40 cm. The new distance between the person and his image in the plane mirror is
A) 60 cm
B) 1.2 m
C) 1.4 m
D) 2.0 m
Answer: 1.2 m
Explanation: Image fored in the plane mirror lies on the same distace on which object is lying away from the plae mirror.
Now he was standing 1 m away that is 100 cm
he walks towards plain mirror 40 cm
so the new distace b/w mirror and object is 60 cm
so the new distance bw image and object is 60 cm *2 = 120 cm that is 1.2 m.
